Google launches Gmail

I wonder if this is just an April Fool Joke but Google is going into the free e-mail business and will launch a new service called gmail. The special thing about gmail is it provide you with 1 GB storage instead of yahoo which offer 4 MB and hotmail who offer 2 MB.

The reason why gmail wants to provide 1 GB storage is to allow people to keep their messages so people no longer needs to delete their old message. So, your e-mail could stay in your inbox forever.

I wonder if most people need that much storage. Unless of course the person is a famous or busy person with so many colleagues. Or perhaps someone who is subscribed to so many high-volume mailing lists. I don’t receive that much e-mail and I am subscribed to a number of freebsd mailing list.

Another special thing about gmail is it doesn’t charge money it’s users. Unlike google and yahoo who charge money to people who wish to have more storage. Gmail will make money.

UPDATE Gmail No Joke - so it wasn’t an april fool joke after all
