My Favorite Windows Applications

Last week, Boy Avianto said he was going to write about useful applications installed on his Mac. Since I haven’t been blogging about anything, I’m going to write about useful software that I installed on my Windows XP Pro (Yes, I am still a Microsoft Windows user, even though I often blog more about freebsd and mac).

Mozilla Firefox

Firefox is my favorite browser, I always have it wether I’m on Mac or Windows. Tabbed browsing just changed my browsing experience. I’ve been a mozilla firefox user since it was still called Firebird. Ever since I made the switch to mozilla firefox, I encouraged my family and friends to use this browser. My sister is now a fan of mozilla firefox too. More information about this software, please go to Mozilla Firefox Website.

Winrar

Winrar, the Windows version of rar archiver. The software is available in two version, the graphical user interface (winrar.exe) or tha console text-mode version (rar.exe). Other than support for .rar and .zip, winrar also supports other extension such as cab, iso, tar, gz. Visit Winrar archiver »

WinRoll

WinRoll allows your window to roll into the title bar. This product is similar to Unsanity WindowShade X. Another good thing about this software is, it’s freeware and open source. In other words, its’ free. Free is good, isn’t it. Visit WinRoll Website »

Tagscanner

I am an organized person, I like my files especially my music to be organized, rename in the format of: %trackno - %artist name - %album name - %music title.mp3. I ripped my CDs into mp3 using iTunes but I do not think iTunes rename your files in the format I wanted.

Tagscanner allows me to rename my MP3/OGG files using tag information of the music file. It also allows me to customize the renaming format. This software has built-in player which is not important since I use iTunes to play my music. It also have a list maker, which I don’t use. Tagscanner Website »

gVim

Vim, my favorite text-editor. It is an improvement of the VI editor and it is probably available in every platform. I use vim on Mac, Linux, FreeBSD, and Windows. vim

WinSCP

WinSCP, an open source SFTP and SCP client for Windows. I use it to copy files securely to a remote server from my Windows Machine. Visit WinSCP Website ».

ACDSee

The iPhoto in Windows. View, organize, edit, browse your photos easily. You can also burn CDs/DVDs of your photos using this software. I have a lot of photos on my computers, and as I said I like my files to be organized.

Well, that’s all I can think of. If you have any more handy tools I could use, please let me know. If you think you have a better software than the one mentioned above, please tell me.
