iScroll2

The latest Apple PowerBook G4 came with a new trackpad with scrolling capability. You can now scroll through documents or web pages easily by dragging two fingers over the trackpad. This blog entry will introduce you to iScroll2, a driver you can download and install to add two-finger scrolling capability on your older powerbook or ibook.

Older PowerBook and iBook users can use iScroll2 for two finger scrolling capability for their trackpad. iScroll2 is based on Apple’s AppleADBMouse-209.0.10 driver for the trackpads found on older models, which is available as part of the publicly released Darwin source code (and covered by the APSL).

Before you download and install iScroll2, you need to download a script to check if your laptop’s trackpad is supported. Once the test finished sucessfully, you can now install iScroll2. You need to restart your laptop once the installation is finished.

Congratulation, you can now place two fingers on your trackpad and start scrolling. You can configure iScroll2 in System Preferences. iScroll supports two scrolling mode the Linear scrolling and the Circular scrolling.

The linear scrolling is the default scrolling mode. All you need to do is move your finger up and down in straight line to scroll in that direction. The circular scrolling works similar like the iPod, all you have to do is put two fingers and move them in a circle.

Enabling both mode will cause erratic behaviour since the driver tries to figure out which mode to employ.
