Logitech MX1000
For months I’ve been wanting to replace my old Microsoft wheel mouse optical because the cable for the mouse often got stuck somewhere and stop me from moving the mouse freely. At first I wanted to buy Apple’s Mighty Mouse, because of the beautiful design but that wouldn’t solve my problem because the Mighty Mouse is not a cordless mouse.
I finally got the MX1000 from Logitech today. For months, I’ve heard so much review about this mouse. The Logitech MX1000 is a Laser mouse, which Logitech claims is 20 times more sensitivity to surface detail than optical.
The mouse have a good battery life. It can go for days without recharging. There is a power meter on the mouse to indicate the current battery life.
I connected the mouse to my Mac, and set the application switch button on the thumb to trigger Expose. The scroll wheel is really nice, it supports the usual vertical scrolls and also clicks left and right for horizontal scrolling.
The size of the mouse is a bit big, but it is the right size for a person with big hand like me. If you have a small hand, then you better go to the shop and give it a try first.
What’s the laser for? Well, I usually bring my laptop to my bed at night, so I can use the mouse on my bed and still point precisely. MX1000 on Logitech

Hi, you wrote that “I connected the mouse to my Mac, and set the application switch button on the thumb to trigger Expose” - how did you manage to get Exposé working with that exact button?
Thanks in advance!
Dan
Btw: cool site! :-)

Hello Dan,
You can go to System Preferences, click on Dashboard & Expose and then set your mouse and keyboard prefences there.
I created a screenshot of my dashboard and expose setting at http://wpram.com/files/upload/2006/03/sysprefences-dashexpose.jpg

Hi Wiliam,
Thanks for the quick reply!
For some reason it won’t work - do you think it has something to do with the LCC (Logitech Control Center) being installed?
If I must uninstall LCC in order to get Exposé going on mouse button 5 do you know how I can keep the other button functions, or if it’s possible at all?
Thx! :-)

Dan,
I’m not sure if Logitech Control Center is the cause because I did not install it. You can try, and see if works. I don’t get what you mean by other button functions.
Good luck :)

Hi, to get Expose to work with your Logitech mouse, after installing the Logitech software, you can for example
1) remove the expose shortcuts in the system preferences (set -) 2) load the “Device Manager” for your mouse, and set the buttons you want to work with expose to “keystroke” and specify the keys as F9, F10 ++ 3) set the shortcuts in the expose preferance pane to the same buttons, F9, F10 ++ …
sorry for lousy english, I hope you understand my instructions :-)
