Microsoft unveils Origami Project

The weblogs community had been talking about origami project for the past few weeks. Today, Microsoft finally unveils the origami project, an ultra-mobile pc (UMPC) running Windows XP. It is a new kind of computer with the power of Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, allowing you to run all kinds of windows applications.

Microsoft is not manufacturing the hardware PC manufacturer will manufacture the hardware. UMPC devices are expected to be in stores by April. The hardware will feature a 7-inch (or less) touch screen that will respond to stylus or finger tap.

A software to control the touch-screen function called Touch Pack is also included with UMPC hardware. Touch pack will include a number of software such as Program Launcher, Windows Media player skin called Brilliant Black, a program that gives you a way to input text on the touch-screen computer, and Sudoku game.
