Apple Boot Camp - Dual boot Windows XP and OS X on Intel Macs

In a press release, Apple introduces a public beta of Boot Camp.

Boot Camp enable Mac owners with Intel Mac to install and run Windows XP operating system. Boot Camp allows you to choose between Mac OS X and Windows XP at startup (Dual Boot). Boot Camp is a feature of Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard”, the next version of Mac OS X operating system to be released later this year.

Last month, a hacker named narf and blanka won $13,000 in a contest to run Windows XP on Intel Mac. The steps to install Windows on Mac is a bit intimidating for non-tech people. Installing XP with Boot Camp is a lot easier and it also burns a CD containing Mac-specific drivers (necessary!).

To install Boot Camp you must install a new firmware released by Apple on your Intel Macs. The firmware installer is available for iMac, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini.

In order to install Windows, you need to provide your own Windows XP, Service Pack 2 (Home or Professional). Apple does not sell Windows XP.
