iAlertU - Alarm for your MacBook Pro

iAlertU is a remote controlled motion sensitive alarm system for MacBook Pro, which came with motion sensor technology. It allows you to use the infrared Apple Remote to control the alarm from afar.

When the alarm goes, your speaker volume is automatically set to maximum and the mute button will be disabled. Screen will also go flashing if the alarm is triggered. In the future, the software can also use MacBook Pro’s built-in iSight camera to take a snapshot and send an e-mail if you are connected to the internet.

This software is useful for those who wish to step away from your work momentarily. A beta should be available soon from iAlertU website.

Check out the demo video below:

Update: iAlertU beta is available for download. This version is only for MacBook Pro.

Leaving a box of jewelry lying around in public places is stupid.

Leaving an expensive laptop is not so smart either.

You don’t need an alarm.

You need common sense.

Of course, this could very well be an April Fools.

Do you make this for the previously motion sensor equipped powerbooks it says it cant find any sensors to use.

FYI, not all laptops are stolen out of lack of the owner’s common sense. A previous roommate of mine got her laptop stolen while it was kept in her locked dorm room, in a locked apartment suite (someone must have had a copy of the key). I know of two other people here at MIT who have had their laptops stolen from their locked offices (again, someone must have gotten hold of the key or hacked their way in). Me, I had my Dell laptop stolen a month ago from my office, despite it had one of those Kensington-type locks on it (the thief managed to rip it off, breaking the computer case). It seems that at universities laptops are stolen quite often from people’s private rooms or offices (not usually public places, since it’s quite obvious). Actually I wouldn’t be surprised if more laptops were stolen from dorm rooms/offices that from say, libraries or coffee shops. Sad but true.
